Scene from 'Cyberbully' analysis

The non-diegetic sound playing during the scene creates a sad and moving atmosphere, the song 'breathe me' also has connotations which lead to the acknowledgement of the suicide attempt. The tension is created through the verbal codes 'Taylor' coinciding with the diegetic sound of the ambulance sirens. The cross cutting between, Sam inside the house, the mum arriving at the house and the ambulance coming creates different viewpoints this climax has on other characters. When Sam enters the bedroom, the camera sweeps to the laptop on the desk, then moves to a close up, this shot helps underscore the source of the suicide attempt and acts as a reminder to the audience. During the bathroom scene the lighting is relatively low key, connoting the darkness Taylor is feeling and the darkness of the issue of suicide. The medium close up of the two characters in shot allow for focus on the drugs as well as the facial expressions and the body language, helping connote the emotion and atmosphere. The screams from Taylor and the raising non diegetic sound in the background conveys how desperate Taylor is and the severity the effect of cyber bullying has had on her.
